In 2019, after a ten-year hiatus, Midwest hip-hop heavyweights Earthworms reformed and began work on new music with Doug Surreal at the production helm.
The first taste of things to come is “Take a Piece Back,” a track exclusive to the “City Wide Sessions” compilation by Jim’s Pool Room Records, in collaboration with 4Hands Brewery and Breakfast Music Group. An exploration of new sonic pathways for both Earthworms and Doug Surreal, “Take a Piece Back” nonetheless finds the crew in a familiar lyrical space: The world in turmoil, man-made atrocities around every corner, psychological horrors ruling the day. The result is a journey through the kind of darkness one must become comfortable with to eventually find the light and prevail. And it’s a sample of what’s in store on the full-length release Garden in the Ruins.
